With a wide range of experience in placing eye catching Shop-in-Shop formats, the Retail Services group will take you through site surveys, location, right through to installation and merchandising. Our designs can incorporate all materials and substrates to suit the environment. These designs can be freestanding or designed to fit existing solutions.
Our Design agency specialise in Retail Design, however the difference is they have engineering backgrounds! From hand sketches through to 3D animations and AR. All of our designers come from a product design background, they know how to make things work, with a vast experience in traditional gondola display, coupled with Stunning visualisations and Brand awareness. Many of our client’s projects are split between permanent, semi- permanent and temporary solutions. Once we have established the budget for the project and the life span needed, our design agency will talk you through the most suitable materials. Usually a combination of sheet metal, acrylic, MDF and Foamex. All of which help Retail Services solutions to remain as good looking as the day they were first delivered to store. We also design all of our displays with end of life in mind, meaning all of our products can be broken down and re-cycled!
If the high street and customers buying trends have changed then so must the Retail environment. Our designs include a whole host of technology; - interactive WIFI displays, animation, augmented reality, both in the retail area and as part of our superb presentations, I beacons and NFC technology. All of these will play a major part in capturing sales in store.
A large number of our projects are designed and manufactured in-house from products such as re-board, di- bond, high end acrylic and many more. These more temporary displays can still incorporate technology, such as interactive screens, LED, audio and visual but generally have a life span of 6 week. A good way of winning valuable space in a retailer.
The majority of our large retail clients have nationwide locations. Effective project management is critical in delivering a successful rollout. All of our installation team have Sema qualifications, working at height training and CSCS accreditation. We offer our data-and-go package at no extra charge, meaning the client has full real time access to information, including sign off sheets, statistics and photos.
A Few Case Studies
Challenge...Our mission was to create a modern café concept, combining traditional and modern materials, working to critical lead times.
Solution...A combination of character oak, stainless steel and reverse printed glass. Bespoke equipment included: 3m high oak/glass wall frames, easels and A-frames. We successfully created a contemporary revamp of Morrison’s cafés.
Conclusion...From design to manufacture in 2 weeks, collating all our in-house materials. Successfully installed by skilled RS Professionals to meet Morrison’s new store opening program.
Challenge...Selected by Game and Fury to create technical drawings from existing conceptual designs and revitalise the interior of Games 324 stores for the launch of Xbox one and PS4.
Solution...We produced a fully interactive console area, supported by LED halo lighting. Creating a highly dynamic product showcase area for both brands.
Conclusion...6 weeks project time line from technical design to roll out completion. Utilising all our onsite facilities and services. Fully project managed in house.
Challenge...To create an entertainment shop in shop experience within WH Smith retailers on behalf of UCA.
Solution...Managing the project from design concept through to manufacture and installation, we created bespoke wall bays and gondolas to fit within existing WH Smiths fixtures.
Conclusion...The project was design, manufactured and installed in under a week! An uplift in DVD sales of 300% allowed us to take the concept and deliver it nationwide.
Challenge...We were tasked with finding a solution to a 9m diameter hanging sign in the Decorators Studio for Homebase. Main areas of concern were weight and installation due to the sheer size, budget and finally, lead time!
Solution...Using printed and v-grooved Re-board, we created an extremely strong and lightweight structure. Transported in 4 sections and bonded on site. The rings were installed by our professional fitting team.
Conclusion...The Retail Services Group successfully delivered two future concept stores in short lead times and the signage is still in store now.
Challenge...To design and manufacture kiddicare’s first fully bespoke and interactive kiosks.
Solution...Working to kiddicare’s new brand guidelines and IT specifications, the kiosk combines creative aesthetics with enhanced usability and functionality. All aspects of the kiosk were sourced and installed by the Retail Services Group.
Conclusion...The kiosk proved such a success, it was rolled out across the whole estate with up to 6 per store.
Challenge...To create a customer interactive non-stock holding studio area within an existing store.
Solution...We conceptualised and manufactured a customer interaction within a decorating studio environment. A wide ranging combination of materials, techniques and finishes created the identity of the ‘Dec Studio’
Conclusion...Remodel and installation in two major flagship locations within the UK.
Challenge...Selected by BHS and DVD distributors to completely design 350 sq ft retail space, solely to maximise sales of dvd’s and cd’s in 50 selected high profile stores.
Solution...Design incorporated wall bays, with integrated light boxes and monitors, making use of metal, acrylics and interchangeable foamex headers. Ceiling suspended signage created in store aerial presence
Conclusion...Completion of installation within a 5 week window, with reported uplifts in sales of 500% within the first 8 weeks. Providing an immediate return on the client’s investment.
Challenge...To work with Arcadia’s design team to design and manufacture a range of high-end bespoke display solutions for their Wallis flag ship store in Bluewater.
Solution...Being part of the design process from conception, allowed us to formulate innovate design and manufacturing solutions to create a truly bespoke and premium feel throughout the store.
Conclusion...From hanging trapezes to wall fixed shelving systems, Arcadia relied on every aspect of the Retail Service Group to turn the project round in under 5 weeks.
Challenge...To create a fully functioning demonstration station for a new range of laser measuring tools. Must be displayed with no physical stock and comply with the retailer’s high health and safety standards.
Solution...We designed a high-impact, hands on demonstration Board. Bespoke security solutions to meet with the retailer’s health & safety requirements as well as ensuring the batteries can be replaced by merchandisers. A motion sensor monitor with a bespoke video edited in house enforced a solid visual presence.
Conclusion...A stylish market entry for a new range of products, received well by retailer and customer. We are now looking to extend the demonstration areas into new retailers.
Challenge...To develop a suite of low level interactive displays for the Leap Pad, Leap Reader, Leap Band and Software Solution.
Solution...Interactive suite of CTU displays with mobile battery units and bespoke, adjustable product holders at low level to allow ‘kids’ interaction. POS and promo graphics were interchangeable to allow easy updating.
Conclusion...Greatly received rollout by both the stores and brand to the point which units were launched in multiple retailers and exhibitions.

Ian has been working within the retail sector since 2003. Developing solutions that strengthen a brands’ market position whilst maximising ROI, Ian combines a strong retail and business background with an MBA. An in depth understanding of the retail sector ensures an adaptable approach to retail programmes and pragmatic attitude to any inherent issues that may arise. If things go wrong, we search for the solution to get the project back on track, whatever that takes!
Having achieved his first Directorship in 1999 Ian has held many senior positions working in both product and service sales. Having first joined Retail Services in 2003 he has also worked for a $500 million turnover Chinese manufacturing company.
An experienced Sales & Marketing Director with a creative mind, he has a proven track record of leading and developing successful teams, whilst still having an active hands-on role in developing new business. He is also a highly motivated and client focused individual with a positive ‘can do’ attitude. Ian is ex-RAF, enjoys extreme sports and believes anything is possible!
No one really knows when Paul started working for us, we are not sure even he knows. Paul’s knowledge of the business is second to none, having started as a fitter, he worked his way up through various roles within the company to the lofty position of Operations Director.
Production, operations and installation services all fall under his control. Basically if you want something doing, just ask him! A naturally cheerful person for whom nothing is too much trouble.
Being a typical Yorkshire man, keeping costs under control is a favourite hobby of his. He walks his black Labrador every morning at 6.15am, as having two daughters it’s the only opportunity for man talk he gets.
Pauls favourite celebrity is Stacey Solomon and he is a secret Manchester United fan.
Stuart joined the Retail Services Group in 2012, after a successful career in Retail. A baptism of fire; Stuart gained his first £600k project after only three months in the role. It was here that he learnt the skills to not only land but also manage a large project from start to finish. A first class Account and project manager, earning promotion to Sales Manager in 2014. He became the “Gantt chart king” the same year and has gone on to be a great addition to the team.
Stuart’s only weakness is Haribo sweets but he assures us he is working on this addiction!
Phil is a National Account Manager here at Retail Services. Amongst other responsibilities, including New Business Development, he has a strong product design background with a BSc Hons degree and experience in consumer product development, lighting and retail design.
He is unique within our business as he combines the creative attributes of a product designer with the communication and drive required in account management and new business development.
As a faithful Manchester United supporter and proud Red, he has found it difficult moving over to Yorkshire however he has been easing the transition by playing for a local Sunday league outfit in Halifax.
Phil also gets mistaken for a slightly second rate Zac Efron.
A National Account Manager, Michelle’s position primarily focuses on managing customer accounts, identifying needs and managing display projects from the initial concept and design through to implementation.
Michelle brings with her a wealth of sales experience from her marketing role at first direct bank and running her own business.
With a genuine commitment to challenge conventional thinking – harnessing all her sales and marketing skills to build her clients brands and businesses.
Michelle also has a look of Lord Farquad!
Naomi is a National account manager here at retail services. Amongst other responsibilities including new business development, she has a strong background within the retail environment.
Having been an account manager with 5+ years’ experience in the retail industry, she has a fiercely competitive approach to acquire new business and sales, while been able to handle complex situations from a strategic and tactical perspective.
Naomi also never stops laughing!!
